This page describes how we handle personal information under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act.
What we collect
When you use a form or the assistant on this site, we collect what you give us: your name, email address, phone number, profession, career stage and whatever you write in the message. We also record which page you were on, and any campaign tags in the link that brought you here. If you run a calculator, the figures you type stay in your browser unless you choose to save them to an account.
We do not collect health information through this site, and you should not send clinical details about yourself or a patient through these forms.
Why we collect it
To answer you, to prepare for a review, to send the monthly note if you asked for it, and to keep the records that an insurance advisor is required to keep. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with anyone except the service providers we need to operate the site and our email, and the insurers you ask us to approach on your behalf.
Consent
Newsletter consent is separate and opt-in, as Canada's anti-spam legislation requires, and every email we send has an unsubscribe link that works. Withdrawing newsletter consent does not affect advice you have already asked for.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not become client files are kept while they are useful and then deleted. Client records are kept for the period required of a licensed insurance advisor in Ontario. The exact retention periods are being confirmed and will be stated here once confirmed.
Seeing or deleting your information
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Ask through the contact form and we will respond within 30 days. A published address for these requests is coming shortly. Where a record must be kept by law, we will tell you which one and why.
Complaints
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. We will give you what you need to do that.
